offpeaktokyoは2017年に撮影者の「日本的なもの」の探求の過程で始まったプロジェクトです。日本的なものというのは、伝統的や由緒正しいという意味ではなく、東京の「オフピーク」（観光的ではなく、非公式的）な瞬間を捉えることで民族の本質的な、日本らしさを切り取ることを当初は試みていました。

しかし、写真を撮るという行為自体は、シャッターを押すことに魅力や意義を感じる瞬間に行うもので、見つけたものや風景に対して何かしらの特異点（街の中で目立つもの）を見出している側面があり、撮影者の「切り抜く」行為に介在する意思に「不誠実さ」を感じ、長年格闘してきました。

撮影の趣旨は変わりつつあり、最近は人々の東京という都市空間の使い方や、街中に残される「もの」から感じ取れる、「今そこにある」ものへの関心へ変化しています。

本年6年目に入り、いまだに結論の出ていない、都市の「切り抜きぱなし」の集合体を、少しでもお楽しみいただければ幸いです。

offpeaktokyo is a project that began in 2017 as a photographer's search for `"Japan-ness". Japan-ness does not necessarily intend a traditional scene, but by capturing Tokyo's "off-peak" (non-touristy, informal) moments, an attempt to capture the true nature of the city and the people was initially made. However, the act of taking a photo itself is something one does when they feel the charm or meaning of pressing the shutter, and to find something unique about the thing or scenery you find (something that stands out in the city). I have been struggling with this for many years because I feel there is a sense of dishonesty in the intention behind the photographer's act of "clipping". The purpose of photography is changing, and recently I have become more interested in how people use the urban space of Tokyo and what is "there right now".

This is not street photography, but my clippings of the streets of Tokyo. For now.
